1st Half Performance
Now that the first half of the year is complete, many management teams are reviewing their numbers and thinking “how does my performance compare?” and “what do I need to do to achieve my 2010 objectives?”
Each quarter MDM and Robert W Baird conduct a Distribution Survey (you can find the report by clicking here). While some manufacturers respond, most of the respondents are distributors. The results cover many industries, including electrical.
The second quarter, and first half, results just came in, and provide insight into segment performance in the electrical industry.
- The overall average performance was a 7.8% increase, however, this is for all industries.
- The electrical industry respondents shared that their average is a 5.6% increase.
- Some other interesting sales results:
- General manufacturing / MRO was up 13.8%, safety was up 12.2%, Other (there was a note relating to alternative energy next to this) was up 10.1% and HVAC was up 9.1%. Building materials, which would be heavily used in resi and commercial construction was only up 3.2%.
Why are these of note? MRO and safety are industrially-oriented and infer that the electrical performance may be more industrially-driven. Alternative energy and HVAC speak to the issues of energy efficiency.
So, how did you perform?
Take our 1st half survey (or click on the hour glass graphic on the side) and we’ll share the results (ideally next week if we get enough responses). No company name is asked for on the survey, only whether you are a manufacturer, distributor, rep or other.
And what are you projecting for the remainder of the year?
