Industry Outlook … Decent for Distributors, Middling for Manufacturers
Earlier this year Channel Marketing Group surveyed distributors and manufacturers regarding their 2014 sales outlook and also inquired about key growth strategies, key markets and key product offerings that would drive growth. This research was then segmented based upon the NAED regions.
Given the challenging winter, we decided to update their outlook at the end of Q1 as we wondered what the impact of the weather, which impacted much of the country, could have on distributor and manufacturer overall forecasts.
Surprisingly, distributors are more optimistic (5.59% overall increase) and manufacturers are a little more pessimistic (4.08% overall increase).
Their outlook, and strategies, remain relatively consistent albeit we saw manufacturers express a greater interest in “opening new accounts and new channels” (it’s easier to grow sales and take share by converting a distributor or opening new ones than to work with existing ones).

What’s your view on the market for the remainder of the year? Key product categories? Key market / customer segments? (or conversely, what is a “challenge”?)
