Support Our Troops and Run to Home Base with Greg Smith from Granite City Electric Supply
Fenway Park and US servicemen and women go hand-in-hand for those of use from Boston and the New England area. Fenway Park’s first official game was April 20, 1912 against the New York Highlanders (and we won the World Series that year.)
And unfortunately, since then our servicemen and women have fought in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Iraq (twice), Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and we’ve had troops deployed in many other armed conflicts (click here for a list up to 1993) and other servicemen and women who given of themselves to protect our country.
A number, however, return from their service affected by combat stress and or traumatic brain injury and need our help.
So what does Fenway Park, the US military and combat stress / traumatic brain injury have to do with the electrical industry? Glad you asked … it’s our opportunity to support our troops.
Greg Smith, VP Marketing for Granite City Electric Supply in Quincy, MA, is participating in next weekend’s 2014 Run to Home Base presented by New Balance®.
Greg has signed up to run the course (click here for the route … I hope he’s been training!)
Some information about this unique partnership between the Red Sox and Mass General Hospital:
The Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program helps Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families heal from the invisible wounds of war — post traumatic stress (PTS) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) — through world class clinical care, community education and research. These invisible wounds are estimated to affect one in three returning veterans, and can affect the entire family.
The Home Base Program operates one of the only private sector clinics in the nation dedicated to healing the “invisible wounds” of war for returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families. Home Base is the first program of its kind, a philanthropic partnership between an Academic Medical Center and a Major League Baseball team, dedicated to serving returning veterans and their families.
Greg reached out to a small group of friends and local supporters to sponsor him, but his closing line made me ask if it would be okay to share it with the industry … “We are all indebted to the selfless servicemen and women and their families upon whom our nation depends.”
