Q4 Pulse of Lighting & 2021 Outlook
With COVID rampaging across the country, infections and hospitalizations up, leading distributors are reporting they are dealing with staffing disruptions and that business activity is good, which hopefully is good for the lighting market.
In a year when in April we feared the worst, it appears that industry sales will be down only 10% (and as an industry we’ve and much worse … remember 2008/2009?)
And there is light at the end of the tunnel. While no one knows how Q1 will go due to COVID and government driven disruption, therapeutics and vaccines bode a positive path forward.
With this as a basis, many industry prognosticators are projecting growth in 2021 … possibly 5% nationally, more in selected markets and key market segments. The new administration could add to this based if its initiatives (infrastructure, renewables) get funded but it could also artificially hamper growth if it reduces tariffs on China and manufacturers reduce their pricing.
Given this as a backdrop, and with lighting a significant percent of industry sales, we’re asking for your support for our final 2020 Pulse of Lighting survey.
We need your feedback in four areas:
- 2020 Q4 performance
- 2021 Q1 Outlook
- 2021 Projection
- Second half outlook … what do you think the impact of the vaccines will be on the lighting market
The survey only takes 2-3 minutes to take. We need input from distributors, manufacturers, reps and lighting agents. A free copy of the report is available to respondents.
Thank you for your help.
And, what are you seeing in the market (please share below) … such as …
- Interest in UVC lighting for disinfection?
- Are you seeing plans for temporary healthcare facilities to support hospitals like many saw in the spring?
- Supply chain issues?
- Pricing?
- Contractor labor concerns
- Interest in lighting controls?
Here were some of our insights from last quarter’s report.
