Projected 2021 Industry Growth
How are you doing in 2021? Are you on pace to beat the national DISC forecast? The current 2021 forecast is reflective of the current economic optimism and the effects of inflationary prices. Moving into 2022 and beyond, growth will start to transition from recovery into economic expansion (not counting whatever may happen from price increases, continuing supply chain issues or other extraneous and unforeseeable factors.)
Here are some 2021 growth forecast numbers to measure performance against:
- If you’re up greater than 19% overall, you’re doing great.
- If you’re a contractor-focused house and are up more than 17%, you’re on target.
- For industrial and OEM electrical supplies, if you’re up more than 26% you’re ahead of the DISC 2021 industrial forecast.
- Commercial and institutional markets are up 15.2% over prior year.
- The utility market for electrical distribution is up 13.8% for 2021.
We are in planning season. Sales performance this year over last has been, for the most part, spectacular. However, care must be taken in a recessionary market followed by rapid expansion and the inflationary price environment. This setting can easily obfuscate true performance. It is important to consider market dynamics and factor them into your strategy and tactics.
