2025 Q4 Pulse of Lighting Survey Now Open
The 2025 Q4 Pulse of Lighting survey is now open.
Yes, it’s a little early but there is something called a holiday coming up and, with many off, we wanted to capture your projections early so that we can share results.
And with this end of year survey, we’re also asking for your 2026 lighting projection. Will it be a “better” year? If so, in what segment?
Q3, overall, was pretty flat which, given tariffs, would represent a decline in unit sales, however, we hear that any decent sized project is subject to negotiation … manufacturers are hungry, for the most part, for business.
Many segments are challenged with the exception of
- Data centers … big construction dollars but relatively small lighting budgets, and “basic” lighting, so not a huge revenue driver. But a project is a project to a lighting agent / rep and a distributor.
- Healthcare is better than the overall market, however, not as robust as desired. In fact, I was in Boston this past weekend and the discussion turned to vacancy rates in Boston and a slowdown in lab space … all due to government cutbacks. It hits each market differently.
- Education is another strength. Upgrades, energy efficiency and new construction.
After that, it becomes geographically specific. Some markets are seeing some multi-family, others have an industrial project or two. Some still see energy efficiency opportunities, inclusive of upgrades from “older” LED installations. Renovation market seemingly outpacing new construction. Adding value (project management, value-engineering, rebate management, etc.) is critical to win, otherwise it is relationship and price.
We are hearing about smart lighting and the convergence of power and mechanical for building management solutions. The key with these is that they need to be sold … by someone. It is not “sit back and wait for the order.” Specifiers and contractors need help … technical expertise. Distributors can provide or be the ones to call their Regional Manager (who hopefully is technically trained or knows whom to go to.”
As always, lots going on in the lighting space.
We’d like to know how Q4 has been for you and what 2026 looks like. Spare 1-2 minutes and take our survey. In appreciation, we’ll send you a free copy of the report. We need your input by December 18th!
