NEMRA Supports Veterans & First Responders
The past year has been a challenge for many but no more so than for the men and women who are in our military or our first responders. In 2020 NEMRA launched an initiative and made the Gary Sinise Foundation its “charity of choice”, and with next week being the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the recent withdrawal from Afghanistan, it’s apropos that Jim Johnson recently traveled to California to present a NEMRA membership donation of $20,000.
Congratulations to the NEMRA membership for stepping up to support the cause.
According to a press release from NEMRA, “Jim Johnson, President of The National Electrical Manufacturers Representatives Association (NEMRA) made a visit to the Gary Sinise Foundation, presenting them with a $20,000.00 donation to support the organization’s R.I.S.E program.
Through R.I.S.E. (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment), the foundation is building specially adapted smart homes for our most severely wounded veterans and first responders. Through specific customizations tailored to the wounded veteran or first responder, these 100% mortgage-free homes ease the daily challenges faced by these heroes and their families who sacrifice alongside them.
Through the R.I.S.E. program, the Gary Sinise Foundation also provides home modifications, mobility devices, and adapted vehicles to our wounded heroes.
“To the NEMRA companies and individual contributors, thank you, again, for helping NEMRA establish itself as an association of individuals and businesses that are, through their generosity, making a positive impact for those that have served us and are now in greater need of our support”
said Jim Johnson, President of NEMRA. “Collectively, NEMRA members can also make a significant impact in the building of these homes through an in-kind donation. From the wire and cabling that powers the home, to the outlet boxes, fittings, and fasteners, to the switches and receptacles, to the
safety and lighting controls, to the lighting fixtures, the overall impact of an in-kind donation is significant”.
“I want to express our sincere gratitude on behalf of Gary Sinise and all of us at the Gary Sinise Foundation for the generous donation we received”, said Gib Bosworth, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Outreach, Gary Sinise Foundation. “We look forward to expanding this great partnership
so we can help pay it forward and serve more veterans, first responders, and their families.”

In talking to Jim, he hopes the membership, both manufacturer reps and manufacturers, will exceed their generosity in 2021 and beyond. Given that smart homes, renewables and EVs are the future of the industry, and core to the electrical offering, in-kind and cash donations can be very helpful.
