Flynn-Reynolds Acquires, Expands to New York
While distributor acquisitions seem to be the norm, manufacturer rep agency acquisitions seemingly are increasing (or being announced in bunches.)
Earlier this month Forward Solutions acquired ElectroRep and R/B Sales. It seemed to sprout a number of conversations and some agencies reached out to learn more (and, in some cases, these agencies do not have strong succession plans.)
So, now we have the third manufacturer rep acquisition of the month.
Flynn-Reynolds, which underwent transition in January 2022 with Greg Reynolds selling to Brian Lally, is expanding into mid / upstate New York with its acquisition of Mills Talbot.
According to a Flynn-Reynolds press release:
“Flynn & Reynolds Agency, Inc., a manufacturer’s representative serving the New England market for over 40 years has announced the acquisition of Mills Talbot Company, another long standing NEMRA Agent serving the Upstate New York market since 1947. Mills Talbot will continue to operate under their current name and sales team, with Gregg Adams and Tom Talbot working with Ed Scannapieco, Flynn & Reynolds VP-Sales Operations, to oversee the integration and resource investment for future growth and line expansion.
The shared philosophy of “always doing the right thing” for the customer as well as significant synergy across manufacturers currently represented by both agencies made this a logical next step in the growth plan of our company said Bryan Lally president of Flynn & Reynolds. “It’s obvious that the New England and Upstate NY markets are merging on multiple levels, and this presents us an opportunity to provide our services to the manufacturer and distributor in a more cohesive manner.” “We are thrilled to be able to enter the trade area with the reputation and respect that Gregg Adams and Tom Talbot have developed over the past decades and plan to only build on their success.”
To that end, Flynn & Reynolds would like to announce the addition of Mr. Dan Sciulli to the Mills Talbot team as VP-Sales for the Upstate market. Sciulli brings a wealth of customer and market knowledge to the role with over 12+ years as an integral member of the Eaton sales team serving the same customer base as Mills Talbot.”
As the press release mentions “the New England and Upstate NY markets are merging”, so, when someone says they cover New York, there are two definitions …. NYC and the Island or the new definition of New England. Essentially, all of the major New England rep agencies now cover mid / upstate New York. Some have much manufacturer commonality across their footprint, some have different line cards in each market (New England and then their New York regions). It would not be a surprise if, over time, there became more line card commonality across the footprints as suppliers seek to align to marketplace changes.
