Top Trends in Office Lighting Presented by WAC Lighting
Corporate America is pushing for a return to the in-person office environment, and redesigning the work space to be more aesthetically pleasing is one way they are hoping to overcome resistance from remote workers.
WAC Lighting is pleased to offer an industry webinar discussing 2024 Office Lighting Trends on Tuesday, December 12 at 2:00pm EST. The session is open to all distributors, WAC Lighting and Modern Forms sales agents, as well as contractors and lighting specifiers.
Aubrey Bertin and Tom Lillie of manufacturer WAC Lighting and Modern Forms, along with sales representative JP Bedell of SDA Lighting & Controls, and lighting designer Xingying Peng of The Lighting Practice, have observed companies making sizable investments in updated and reimagined office spaces that replace the stark, impersonal feel of pre-pandemic workplaces with one that is warm, welcoming, and nearly residential in ambience. All four will be guest speakers at next month’s webinar “Top Office Lighting Trends,” hosted by US Lighting Trends, which will take place on December 12, 2023 at 2pm EST. Click here to register.
Over the past three years, employees have become accustomed to working remotely, surrounded by the creature comforts of home. Today’s forward-thinking employers are trying to recreate that feeling with amenities such as standing desks, comfortable lounge areas, and inviting café spaces. “If employees are going to spend part of their paycheck on commuting expenses again, then there will have to be an incentive to encourage them to do so,” Lillie explains.
Bertin points out the growing trend for multiple gathering areas, adding, “I think collaborative spaces will be key — and that’s a big draw for coming back to the office. Employees will get to collaborate more with their peers in person, which is more time-efficient.” He has also observed a need for more individualized controls in the workplace as well as more lighting schemes.
For example, a recent lighting design for an architectural firm’s Manhattan office involved devising a series of scenes for different times of day: balanced illumination for working in daytime; another for working late as natural daylight disappears; a lively special event vibe; and an after-hours “clean up” scene to aid the custodial staff.
Putting the “fun” in functional lighting goes beyond the recreational amenities that tech firms are known for – such as foosball and Ping-Pong tables – and will entail innovative lighting plans that place a greater emphasis on the decorative aspects of lighting to provide a relaxed, yet productive, work environment.
