Lighting Takes 8 Spots in BD&C Top 75 Products for 2025
An interesting product ranking came across my desk this week. Usually, I don’t pay much attention to these because it is a publisher’s pick but Building Design + Construction’s Top 75 Building Products for 2025 was selected by a jury of AEC professionals and their editors. So, there was “user” input.
The criteria used were:
- Overall potential benefit to project teams (e.g., solves a problem, installs quicker, improves the building design, speeds construction)
- Usefulness to clients/owners/developers (performance, durability, design, ROI, maintenance, etc.)
- Impact on building occupants (health, wellness, safety, productivity)
- Overall innovation within the product category (Is it a “first of its kind?” Does it advance the product category in some way?).
Now, at the same time, companies needed to submit to be selected. More than 80 companies submitted 143 products (so, almost 53% of submittals received mention as a “top” product.)
In looking at the list, the following electrical / lighting manufacturers and products were mentioned:
- Acclaim Lighting Flex Graze HO SC
- AMP Lighting AMP SECURE LED Wall Pack
- DMF Lighting C Series
- Leviton Manufacturing Leviton GreenConnect Wireless Lighting Controls
- Luminii MYKA
- Lutron Electronics The Athena System
- Luxxbox Kurtain Stratum
- PureEdge Lighting MicroTrack
Congratulations to those companies who received mention as a Top 75 and, perhaps more importantly, congratulations on taking the time to submit.
Now, while recognition and visibility are nice, does it mean anything and drive any sales? Who knows but it doesn’t hurt.
It also makes you wonder why other electrical and lighting products, and manufacturers, are not mentioned. It could be they didn’t submit or that they submitted and were not ones that were recognized.
But these types of opportunities are free publicity (hence marketing) and perhaps a nominal SEO opportunity (especially if there were backlinks.)
If you are a manufacturer marketer, or a manufacturer that works with a PR firm, identifying these “free marketing opportunities” should be on the “to do” list.
And if you are a “winner”, are you mentioning this to your channel? Promoting it to end-users / contractors that “their peers” selected you?
