Helix Electric to Open Manufacturing Plant in Arizona
California-based Helix Electric has selected the city of Goodyear – less than 20 miles from Phoenix – as the site of its new 112,000-sq.-ft. facility for manufacturing and fabricating components for the electrical construction market.
According to the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), the facility will ship to existing Helix Electric markets nationwide and create 100+ jobs in engineering, production, quality control, and administration.
“After an exhaustive search, we found that Goodyear had the right mix of a trained workforce, a great business climate, and access to transportation networks that would suit our needs now and long into the future,” said Boris Shekhter, President of Helix Electric. “This is a large investment for our company and we are very excited to partner with the City of Goodyear, the Arizona Commerce Authority, and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council to bring our vision of a modern construction manufacturing facility to life.”
Goodyear’s “Loop 303 Manufacturing Corridor” has attracted many major brands such as Sub-Zero, REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Microsoft, and Ball Corp. It is also home to Chewy Inc.’s e-commerce facility and Amazon, which is the city’s largest employer with nearly 3,000 employees.
“We are excited Helix Electric has selected Goodyear for this first-of-its-kind, advanced facility,” said Sandra Watson, President & CEO of the ACA. “Goodyear is experiencing rapid manufacturing growth, and Helix Electric will contribute to the exciting economic activity happening in the area and create over 100 high-skilled jobs for residents.”
According to ACA, Helix Electric chose Arizona because the state offers a growing economy, a skilled and trained workforce, an affordable cost of doing business, close access to rail and highway, and a supportive partnership with local and state government to provide continuous infrastructure and incentives.
“Helix Electric is the latest example of a California-based company expanding its footprint into Greater Phoenix to maximize our robust talent pool and scale in the country’s fastest growing region,” said Chris Camacho, President & CEO of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. “The company is a welcomed addition to Greater Phoenix’s contractor ecosystem creating critical jobs and further enabling the region to meet the construction demands of advanced industry.”
Goodyear Mayor Georgia Lord added, “Since 1985, Helix Electric has been a respected name in electrical contracting. I welcome Helix Electric to Goodyear and I am very pleased they chose to become part of our growing city.”
Helix is one of the largest electrical contractors in the country. Their investment into a manufacturing / pre-fab facility of this size emphasizes the importance of pre-fab initiatives to improving construction methods.
